When I put on my TradeMutt shirt, I’m not just getting ready for another day—I’m consciously popping on a shirt knowing I could make a difference.

The designs themselves are great icebreakers. People often ask about the patterns or colors, which helps steer the conversation toward why I wear the shirt. I might mention TIACS and the professional and free counselling available to them by just scanning the QR code, and how it’s there for anyone who needs to talk. As well as mentioning how beneficial it has been for me to reach out, ask for support, and speak to a professional.
Wearing this shirt has also helped me check in with mates.
I’ll ask, “How’s everything going with you?” or “You know I’m always here if you need a yarn, right?” It’s not always about heavy conversations—it’s just about being present and showing empathy and compassion, a visual symbol that you are available and ready if they ever need it. You don’t need to fix anyone's problems, you just need to show that you care.
