About TradeMutt

TradeMutt isn't just a workwear brand, we’re a social enterprise on a mission to help people start conversations about mental health. Our vibrant, loud, and dynamic patterns act as a catalyst for connection on worksites across Australia. We’re looking for a creative powerhouse who thrives in a team environment to help us keep the conversations going.

The Role

As a Textile Designer at TradeMutt, you are a part of the creative engine of the brand. While your technical skill is vital, your ability to collaborate is what will make you successful. You will sit at the intersection of creativity and commerce, working daily with our Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the Buying team, and fellow designers to turn big ideas into wearable reality.  The core aspect of the role is designing amazing original prints from scratch with different visual perspectives in new and interesting ways.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborative Design: Partner closely with the SLT to translate high-level brand visions into tangible print concepts.

  • Cross Functional Synergy: Work hand-in-hand with the Buying Team to ensure designs align with production lead times, commercial saleability and workflow agility.

  • Team Integration: Actively participate in design critiques and "jam sessions" with the team, offering constructive feedback and brainstorming ways to push the brand forward.

  • Print Innovation: Conceptualise and design original, high-impact textile prints that align with the TradeMutt ethos to keep our customers coming back.

  • Technical Execution: Create seamless repeats and prepare vectorised, production ready files for a range of manufacturing outputs.

  • Trend & Cultural Research: Stay ahead of design trends while deeply understanding "Aussie" culture to ensure our prints resonate with our community.

Who We Need

  • A "Can Do" Legend: You approach every challenge with a positive attitude and a solution oriented mindset. No task is too big or too small.

  • The Ultimate Team Player: You understand that the best ideas come from collaboration. You are approachable, open to feedback, and love working toward a shared goal.

  • High Energy Communicator: You can confidently present your ideas to leadership and pivot quickly based on team needs.

  • Creative Maverick: You have a portfolio that screams personality and shows a mastery of color theory and composition.

  • Passionate: You care about mental health advocacy and want your work to have a real world impact.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 3+ years of experience in textile or graphic design, specifically within apparel preferred (Not essential)

  • Software Mastery: Expert level in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop & Fresco).

  • Production Knowledge: Deep understanding of repeat patterns and preparing files for various printing methods. You understand the difference between a half-drop and straight repeat and the difference between a one and two way cut design

  • Communication: Proven ability to work within a multi disciplinary team and manage stakeholders across different departments whilst maintaining critical path deadlines.

The Perks

  • Impact: Your designs literally help save lives by sparking vital conversations.

  • Culture: Join a team that values authenticity, humor, and looking out for one another.

  • No Ego Environment: We work hard, we play hard, and we do it together.

  • 4 Day Work Week: Work 4 days and be paid for 5! Bring on 3 day weekends!

  • Flexible Working Arrangement: Every Monday work from home and 3 days in office
